Necro-Chaos

So I was looking at Death Aspect's blog and saw the really innovative chaos deck that he posted.   I really like the build he has, and love the idea behind it.  But I own exactly 0 Tour Guides and can't justify spending that kind of money on 3 cards.  I've since been trying out different ideas in my head trying to find one that would let you apporximate the same engine.

Unfortunately I can't.  I can find engines that get me a Rank 3 XYZ, and I can find engines that bring Sangan online.  But there doesn't seem to be a way to do both without TGU.  So I'm skipping the Leviair tricks and just going straight to abuse Sangan.  Here is my version of the deck.

21
1x Black Luster Soldier, Envoy of the Beginning
2x Chaos Sorcerer
3x Armageddon Knight
1x Necro Gardna
1x Sangan
1x Necroface
3x Cyber Valley
3x Dimensional Alchemist
3x Battle Fader
3x Effect Veiler

13
2x Gold Sarcophagus
3x Machine Duplication
1x Mind Control
1x Dark Hole
1x Monster Reborn
1x Heavy Storm
1x Allure of Darkness
3x Mystical Space Typhoon

6
1x Mirror Force
1x Torrential Tribute
1x Solemn Judgment
1x Return from the Different Dimension
2x Call of the Haunted

I really want to put Primal Seed and Phantom of Chaos in here, but fear that it would make it too inconsistent.  Basically, I have swapped the TGU with Armaggedon Knight to keep the live Dark count up (since you can't really count Battle Fader) and replaced BTH with Call of the Haunted.  I feel like Call is a good choice for this deck because you can use it to +1 whenever your opponent Storms or MST's it by getting a Sangan, or a Dimensional Alchemist.

The lack of a way to make Leviair makes the deck a bit less explosive, but I think that can be worked around.  Only time and playtesting will tell however, and if I find that I do need to make Leviair consistently I think I will be running 2-3x Spirit Reaper to pair with my Sangan and Gardna.

Thanks for reading,

Zombie XYZ Madness

Been trying to think of something fun + competitive to play next format and the first thing that came to mind was ZOMBIES!!

They have long been one of my favorite decks to play and with Blu-Blooded Oni and Pain Painter they just gained some cool new tricks.  This build has not been tested yet and may not be that good, but I think the idea needs some playing around with and this should be a good place to start.

Monsters: 24

Goblin Zombie x3
Zombie Master x2
Blu-Blooded Oni x2
Spirit Reaper x2
Plaguespreader Zombie x1
Pain Painter x1
Mezuki x1
TG Warwolf x3
TG Striker x1
Sangan x1
Mystic Tomato x1
Ryko x2
Effect Veiler x2
Black Luster Soldier x1
Necro Garnda x1

Spells : 14

1x Heavy Storm
1x Monster Reborn
1x Foolish Burial
1x Dark Hole
1x Burial from the Different Dimension
1x Book of Moon
1x Enemy Controller
1x Mind Control
1x Creature Swap
1x Pot of Avarice
2x Book of Life
2x MST

Traps : 3

1x Trap Stun
2x Call of the Haunted

Extra Deck : 15

2x Utopia (don't have Roach)
2x Leviair

11x Whatevers

Basically this deck just looks to abuse BBO and get a ton of free cards with Goblin Zombie.  The TG monsters are in here to help make Leviair as Zombies alone just don't have the Level 3's to make it happen.  There is also really cool synergy between Zombie Master, TG Warwolf, and Recurring Nightmare, but there just isn't room for that in this build.

An example combo:

Normal Summon Zombie Master +0
Use his effect to summon Spirit Reaper +0
Special Summon Warwolf +0
XYZ Leviair -1
Leviair Effect summons BBO +1 (+0 overall)
Oni Summons Goblin Zombie +1 (+1 overall)
XYZ Utopia with Goblin and Zombie master -1 (+0 overall)

Now you don't actually "gain" anything with that combo, but you do have 3 good sized monsters on the board and 2 attack blocks with Utopia to protect them.  If you don't have to use both Utopia blocks then the madness can really begin on your next turn with Oni detaching and summoning Goblin Zombie to get free searches.

Also, don't forget that Leviair can get your opponent's monsters too, so keep that in mind if you are playing this when you use Book of Life

Hope you enjoyed,

9/1/11 = 9/1/9

Q:  What has Konami done now?

A:  Made more sweet sweet love to their two pet decks, Blackwings and Lightsworn.

This is going to be a (most likely) horrible format to play in as LS now have a 49% chance to open with a Boss level monster, either JD or BLS.  If you include DAD as Twilight decks most likely will the chance rises to 58%.  Note that this is just the chance or natural drawing them, not counting in any Duality searches or Recharge/Allure draws. AND the fact that you can get back JD and BLS with Beckoning Light should turn this into a retardedly consistent deck.

List Here

Things I like : Fishborg, Mind Master, Trunade, LSS Shien, Debris, Lonefire, Librarian, Formula, Smoke, Avarice, Dewloren, D-Draw, SoRL, Call, Reaper.

Things I am "meh" about:  Oppression (was retarded to hit this with MST going to three), Necro, Mind Crush, Overload, Megamorph, Gravity Bind.

Things that made me put down my deck and not want to play immediately after I read this to this point right now:  BLS (dumb, but at least expected), Storm (not that it is back, just the way they did it), Tragoedia (wtf), JD (wtf), Icarus Attack (wtf)

I don't know what they were thinking when they decided to bring back Storm AND 3 MST.  That gives you NO good way to play defensive backrow.  One card, gets MST'd.  Two cards, gets Stormed.

However, I'm gonna hold out hope that this will become a skill based format as people are unwilling/unable to deck the 3 MST and then you get to try to bait your opponent's Storm into something that will make it an even trade or even let you plus off of it (two revival traps into Sangan and Card Trooper for example.)  Even just pulling off one CotH/Limit Reverse into something that will give you advantage when it dies can at least reduce your opponent's Storm to an essential one for one.

I also expect cards like Threatening Roar and Battle Fader to make a strong comeback this format.  They can both be used after storm to keep your, or in the case of Roar your monsters, alive to the next turn so you can try to make a comeback.

Overall, I am very disappointed in this list, but think the players will have alot of choices to make.  In the beginning of the format the more skilled players who can make better reads will often perform better.  But as the decklists become more standardized and internet n00bs start to Copy/Paste their decklists we will see a return to the luck based format we have now...

Maybe...

More to say on this tomorrow as I organize my thoughts.

Falcon PAAAAAWNCH!!

Figured I'd talk about what has become my favorite deck this format, before this format goes away and every thing changes.

I played this deck at a small local last weekend to get back into my stride before regional season starts back up (10-15 in Nashville whoo-hoo!) First time I've ever played it in a competitive event and I was pleasently surprised to win the whole thing going 6-0 in double elimation.  Played against Blackwings, Frognarchs, Chaos Stun, Agents, Dragunities, and then Chaos Stun again in the finals.  Would go into more detail on the matches, but honestly all that I really remember is that Utopia and Mist Valley Thunder Lord put in ALOT of work for me.  Anyway, here's the decklist.

Falcon PAAAAAWNCH!!

Monsters - 21

3x Mist Valley Falcon
3x Genex Ally Birdman
3x Reborn Tengu
2x Debris Dragon
2x Snowman Eater
2x Des Lacooda
2x Card Trooper
1x Blackwing - Zephyros the Elite
1x Dragunity Darkspear
1x Sangan
1x Genex Blastfan

Spells - 11

3x Divine Wind of Mist Valley
2x Terraforming
2x Pot of Avarice
1x Giant Trunade
1x Dark Hole
1x Monster Reborn
1x Swords of Revealing Light

Traps - 11

3x Limit Reverse
2x Safe Zone
2x Solemn Warning
1x Call of the Haunted
1x Torrential Tribute
1x Mirror Force
1x Solemn Judgment

Extra - 15 (Was garbage, just threw it together on the drive)

2x Dewloren, Tiger King of the Ice Barrier
2x Iron Chain Dragon
1x Brionac, Dragon of the Ice Barrier
2x Gungnir, Dragon of the Ice Barrier
2x Mist Valley Thunder Lord
1x Ancient Fairy Dragon
1x Black Rose Dragon
1x Arcanite Magician
1x Trishula, Dragon of the Ice Barrier

1x Grenosaurus
1x Number 39: Utopia

Side Deck: 15 (Pretty much took the side from my Tengu Plants, added Veilers and then whatever I could find laying around)

1x Neo-Spacian Grand Mole
1x Snowman Eater
2x Effect Veiler
2x D.D. Crow
2x Maxx "C"
2x Ryko, Lightsworn Hunter
3x Meklord Emperor Wisel (random in my car)

2x Debunk

There's not much that I would change in this deck but I did drop a Terraforming for my third Safe Zone that a friend picked up for me. Would also find room for a second Utopia in the Extra deck because it came in incredibly useful.  Now then, I don't know if that many people know exactly how this deck works so I'll go into some short combos.

Limit Reverse > Des Lacooda: One of the most important combos in the deck.  It allows you to get free draws from Lacooda and since you de-link it from Limit Reverse you are free to return it to your hand.

Limit Reverse > Dragunity Darkspear > Mist Valley Falcon:  Essentially nets you a free 2000 beater by returning LR to your hand.

Safe Zone & Mist Valley Falcon/Mist Valley Thunder Lord:  Taking out your opponent's monsters at will.  If you are using Thunder Lord you can even do it during their turn.

Safe Zone & Utopia:  Whenever your opponent tries to get Utopia to blow up via his own effect you can chain this for a nasty surprise.

Divine Wind & any WIND monster & Genex Ally Birdman:  Shenanigans, usually ends with mad plusses.

Debris Dragon > side decked cards (Crow, Veiler, "C") & Falcon or Birdman:  Nothing quite like getting a "free" second use out of these cards, just too bad none of them are wind.

Well that's it for today, peace.

First Post

I've been reading alot of these blogs over the last 3-4 months and decided that I might as well go ahead and make one.  I've been playing Yugioh for about 8 years (only about 4 competitively though.)   It's kinda hard to play alot though living in a small rural area.  The closest tournament store is over 60 miles away.

Mostly I plan to use this blog to post about deck ideas and combos as well as general Yugioh news.  My friends and family on facebook that don't play seem to get annoyed whenever I post something like "new XYZ is broken."

I'll try to do tournament reports when I can.

Just keep an eye on this space--interesting things to come.
